Shaker Heights Public Library offers a variety of computer classes, one-on-one technology support and learning opportunities, and online tutorials for all skill levels. Whether you’re new to computers and learning the basics or looking to deepen your knowledge of more advanced technology skills using the equipment in our Tech Studio or The Workshop, we have the resources and support you need to get started.
Computer Classes
All computer classes are free and open to the public. Registration for class is required. To register, visit https://tinyurl.com/ShakerTechLearning or call (216) 991-2030. Our current computer class schedule includes the following topics: Basic Computer Skills, Microsoft Excel 2016, Microsoft Word 2016, Social Media, and Email.
Basic Computer Skills
Get started with computers by learning the basics about computer types; controlling the computer using a keyboard and mouse; and finding your way around the computer using your settings, organization, and knowledge of computer parts.
Microsoft Excel 2016
Learn how to navigate and identify parts of Excel spreadsheets; how to enter data and format cells, rows, and columns; how to sort and filter your data; and how to create charts.
Microsoft Word 2016
Learn how to create, save, organize, format, and finish your Word Document. Classes review opening, closing, and saving documents; adding texts and objects; page and text formatting; and using Spelling and Grammar checks.
Windows 10
Learn how to navigate Windows operating system to manage your computer, find programs and tools to help perform specific tasks, and understand storage drive options to save and back up your work.
Learn how to create a professional email account for work or school, use email etiquette when sending emails, understand utilizing common email functions like forwarding and reply all, and account management to stay organized.
One-on-One Tech Help
The library offers one-on-one technology appointments with our Technology Experience Specialist. Appointments are located at Shaker Heights Public Library’s Main Library and may be scheduled up to two weeks in advance. During one-on-one appointments, assistance is offered on topics like setting up an email account, honing your skills with Microsoft Office or Google Drive, and learning how to use the equipment in the library’s Creation Spaces. We are sorry, but we cannot provide technical support for customers’ personal devices.
