Shaker Library has joined many libraries across North America to remove barriers to access to the library. Why have we gone fine free? It’s good for our community. Overdue fines are not effective. It’s fiscally responsible.

Helping a child to enjoy reading is one of the most important things a parent can do for a child. Your library provides safe spaces, story times, access to books, art activities, and children’s rooms where they have opportunities to role play, build, and discover—all of the things that foster a child’s development. Visit us often.
Shaker Library, Friends of the Shaker Library, and the Shaker Schools Foundation present Susan Orlean, SHHS Class of 1973 and author of the bestseller, The Library Book. The program is free and will be held at Shaker Middle School at 7 pm Tuesday October 15. Orlean is a journalist and author who has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1992. She has contributed articles to many magazines including Vogue, Rolling Stone, Esquire, and Outside. Her 1998 book, The Orchid Thief, was made into the movie, Adaptation.
Following her talk books will be available for sale and signing. Registration is required.
