The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement below will be incorporated into the Mission, Vision, and Values of Shaker Heights Public Library:
We welcome, value, and seek to include people of all races, ethnicities, cultures, religions, socioeconomic statuses, ages, visible and invisible disabilities, political and social viewpoints, housing statuses, sexual orientations, and gender identities. We recognize that systemic inequities and barriers exist. We continually strive to dismantle them and provide equitable access for all members of our community and staff.
We demonstrate commitment to the principles of the DEI statement by:
- Working to create a library in which everyone can find themselves and learn about others, including by:
- Implementing programs and services that reflect the diversity of our community and world.
- Developing a diverse, inclusive collection of library materials.
- Fostering an environment in which everyone feels welcome and supported in their use of the library, including by:
- Ensuring our facilities and resources meet the needs of our diverse community.
- Welcoming all people to use restrooms that correspond to their gender identity.
- Creating a respectful and inclusive workplace environment in which all staff can feel empowered, valued, and supported.
- Engaging staff in ongoing equity and inclusion training and development activities.
- Prioritizing best practices in equity and inclusion as we continuously evaluate, review, and revise policies, procedures, programs, and services.
