By phone: Call the Main Library at 216-991-2030 or Bertram Woods Branch at 216-991-2421 to request up to 10 Shaker Library-owned items per day, per account. Provide your name, phone number, and library card number. Library staff will gather your items and call you to schedule a pickup time and give you an order number.

Online: Place Shaker Library-owned items on hold at shakerlibrary.org or via the CLEVNET app. Please note that only items located at your pickup library location will be eligible for holds. When you receive an automated message that your items are ready, call the library to schedule a pickup time and receive your order number.

When you arrive, pull into a numbered parking space and open your trunk. If you are on foot or bicycle, please remain six feet away from the pickup cart. Call the phone number on the sign to let us know you’ve arrived, with your name, order number, and number of your parking space.

Pickup your items curbside

Please wait in your car while a staff member places your items in your trunk and closes it. If you are on foot or bicycle, please remain six feet away from the pickup table until the staff member has placed your items on the table.

Who can use Curbside Pickup?

Curbside Pickup is available for current library cardholders whose cards are in good standing.

What time can I pick up my items?

Curbside Pickup is available by appointment during these hours:

11 am to 7 pm Monday — Thursday,  9:30 am to 5:30 pm Friday and Saturday

I have a digital card, can I reserve and pick up books?

No, a digital card is for emedia only.

My library card is blocked. How can I place holds for curbside pickup?

For questions regarding the status of your library card, call 216-991-2030 and talk to the Circulation Department. If you want to pay your fines, our online payment system is available via the ‘My Account’ link  or by mailing a check payable to Shaker Library,16500 Van Aken Blvd., Shaker Heights, OH 44120.

How do I renew my library card?

Most library cards expire every two years to allow us to verify your current contact information. If your card has expired recently or is about to expire, your card may be renewed by calling or emailing the library.

How do I request items?

How do I know when I can pick up my library material?

If you placed your request by phone: When your items are ready, staff will call you to schedule a pickup appointment for the current or the next business day and give you an order number.

If you placed items on hold online: When you receive an automated message that your items are ready, call the library to schedule a pickup appointment for the current or the next business day and receive your order number.

I placed a hold on an item at Main Library but it won’t let me pick it up at Bertram Woods Branch.

Due to quarantine protocols, we are not transferring items between libraries. If you want to reserve an item you can only pick it up from the library that owns it.

Can I schedule a pickup time online?

No. We do not offer online scheduling at this time, however we will continue to explore our options. Currently, you can only schedule a pickup time by calling the library.

How do I pick up my items?

What if I don’t have a car, but still want Curbside Pickup?

If you are on foot or bicycle, please remain six feet away from the pickup cart and the staff member will place your items on it.

Who can pick up my items?

Anyone may pick up your items, but they must have your name and order number.

Why are you using plastic bags for pickup items?

Plastic bags are a temporary measure used to protect patron privacy, physical materials, and to limit unnecessary contact.

What if I no longer want to check out the items I have on hold?

Please call 216-991-2030 or 216-991-2421 and ask to be connected with staff at your library.

How do I renew items?

You may renew items if no one else has requested them, and if the renewal limit has not been reached. The CLEVNET system will automatically attempt to renew eligible items one day prior to their due date. You may also renew your items online or over the phone. To renew online, login to your account.

Where do I return items?

You may only return items via the Drive-up Book Drops, which have 24 hour access.

I returned my items, but my account says they are not checked back in yet.

In order to ensure the safety of our staff and customers, we are placing all returned items into quarantine for at least 72 hours before checking them back in. Please allow at least 72 hours for your account to show your items as returned.

What are the safety precautions your staff members are taking?

All staff members are required to wear a face mask and will practice social distancing from other staff members and members of the public during curbside service. All items checked back into the Library during this time are placed in a 72-hour quarantine before being placed back on shelves. We are deep cleaning furniture and equipment used by staff and monitoring staff health daily.

Can I donate books to the Library?

The library is not accepting books at this time. Please do NOT put donated books in the book drops.
