In order to preserve access to many irreplaceable items:
  • Materials in the Local History Collection must be used in the library and cannot be checked out.

  • Local History materials are located and made available to customers by the Local History Librarian. All material use will be supervised by the Local History Librarian. The Local History Collection is not a self-serve browsing collection.
  • Local History materials, unless otherwise specified, can be photocopied.
  • Researchers are asked to wear gloves (provided) when handling fragile materials or unprotected photographs.
  • While a researcher uses Local History materials, the researcher`s ID and a list of materials in use will be held at the Information Desk or by the Local History Librarian.
  • When the Local History Librarian is not available, a reference librarian can make the following materials available to researchers:
    • school yearbooks
    • cataloged reference books by Shaker Authors and on Shaker Heights and Cleveland history
    • materials that previously have been set aside by the Local History Librarian for a researcher`s use. See Visit the Local History Collection for the Local History Librarian`s contact information to discuss your research needs.
